Orchid Story 37 - The truth…

November 2006

My Dear Orchid Story Reader

This month somehow ended up being extremely fast and extremely slow at the same time. I am sure it has happened to you, too, when sometimes a moment feels like eternity while at other times it passes by like a speed light. To me, this month, it was really like that especially when reading my finance and accounting books and other times when just wondering at the beauties of our world ;-P.

1. Festival of Lights in Chiang Mai, Thailand
2. An inconvenient truth: will our grandkids see it all?
3. Dinner and Dance of 2006
4. Come on… why do you say the opposite of what you wanna say?

1. Festival of Lights in Chiang Mai, Thailand

Amit (India) and I packed up for a weekend trip to Chiand Mai to experience Loy Krathong, the Thai Festival of Lights! A series of massages, royal floral exhibition, night bazaar browsing and temple walks awaited us but what we were really stunned by the most was the range of ceremonies around this special celebration: in the evening, the mayor of the town gave our awards while we could just stare and stare at the meter-high lampions flying up in the black-black night sky! According to the local beliefs, these lampions are messages to Buddha and you can wish and daydream about things while sending those up in the air! We surely did that, you can beat that! The longer they fly up in the air, the more fortune and luck the ritual brings to you! Right after this procedure we found ourselves in the midst of the street parade that led us close to the river, alit with candles below and fireworks from above! We got krathongs, flowerbed-look-alike-offerings on which we had to light the candle and the scents and then let it flow on the water! We were running by the riverbed to see how far our krathongs go and see the faith of our wish ;-)! For pictures, click here!

2. An inconvenient truth: will our grandkids see it all?

The movie, An Inconvenient Truth is being played all around the world. It is a movie, commented by Al Gore about global warming. Realising the striking facts about our present and potential future stroke me very much. While watching the show, you get a simple, easy-to-understand big picture about all the things we all take for granted today and that may not last as long as we'd like: water, air, earth, people… Shocking and stunning recognition at the same time! I can only recommend it!

3. Dinner and Dance of 2006

Finally the time has come for me to enjoy this event as a guest, not as an organiser! This time Amit was organising it ;-)! The program went on very well and the concept was something around the lines of the American Idol. Our friend, Aditi also participated in the singing competition and it was indeed fun to see it all! We ate, drank, danced and had a great deal of fun! If you are keen to see some glamour fun photos, click here!

4. Come on… why do you say the opposite of what you wanna say?

I wonder how often this happens to you, but lately it happens to me pretty often ;-)!
Let’s assume that on a Saturday morning you decide to take some business outfits to the laundry and in the early morning heat you just end up putting on the loosest-oldest wear you can possibly imagine, not thinking of the slight potential of meeting a hot Italian that day ;-)! You see him, you get all shy, turn away but while waiting for the green light at the road, suddenly he starts talking to you. First you actually wonder if he actually really talks to you. He does. The moment before you wished he was talking to you and look, now you don’t know whether you are a boy or a girl. You are nearby neighbours and start “kind of talking”. You keep thinking how awesome it would be if he asked for your number. And then when he asks for it but you can only say that unfortunately you do not have a business card with you (daah!;-)). Your brain is frozen and you just say good-bye. Two minutes later you click: you indeed wanted to give him your number but that slightly-tiny detail did not appeal just at that moment. So you go home and start citing series of the Murphy laws… then you get your accounting book and get ready to read and have a nap every half an hour because of the boredome and dream about the “what if”s of life ;-)… (Note: the above is fully fictional, has no reality base ;-P! “Yeah, right”! hehehe…)

Enough of me for the month!
Love and hugs
