Krabi sziget - Cave kayaking
Last spring Ruch (IN), my friend and I got a bit of appetizer of Krabi island for a weekend. We were absolutely enchanted by the full moon Railey beach, the stunningly beautiful Ko Phi Phi, scenes of the “Beach” (Leonardo DiCaprio) and the James Bond movies… oh, I already knew then that there would be an astalavista!
Many places then promoted the so called cave kayaking which soon drew my attention immensely and with the idea of doing it next time I just had to find a partner for the adventure… of course, my crazy Dutch buddy... Nicky!!! Okay, I tried kayaking before with Nacho (AR) on the island of Rawa in Malaysia but despite his endless patience, it was in vain… hehehe. While having been lost in my work, Nicky took on the wonders of organising which ended up being hilarious: she is quite a spontaneous traveler and got a bit freaked out abut the prep but she did an awesome job!
On the late afternoon of a Friday, we got on a one-and-a-half-hour-long flight to the island of Krabi and then we headed to the "backpackers paradise" called Tonsai. The owners of the resorts there are very smart as they advertise the place with the famous Railey beach, however, this beach becomes a mud pool every afternoon because of the tide ;-)) After arriving, we booked our programs for Saturday and Sunday and had energy only to have a Thai curry dinner in Mambo and a massage.
We started the Saturday morning with a four-island-tour: first we relaxed on Poda island where you can easily find either nudist or conservative beach bumps ;-) We were walking by the beautiful turquoise water and enjoyed the treasures of the tropical beach…
...later we went to Chicken island where the water was full of itchy sea lies (yukkkk!) and then the only thing we wanted was to get back to our long tail boat.
Then we had a picnic lunch on the sandy sea bench among three islands where Nicky swam a lot and in the meanwhile I got grilled in the sun!).
After that we visited an island with a huge cave and than with a group of Spanish backpackers we headed back to the muddy Tonsai. Doing nothing made us absolutely exhausted (well, let’s call it holiday ;-)) and we had energy for a dinner and massage only ;-).
We could not wait for Sunday! It was the day of the long awaited cave kayaking! Most of the tourist offices organize programs for big groups but ours did it for only the four of us: two Israeli people, Nicky and I! The journey was absolutely fantastic!
We saw monkeys with amazing mimicry (we could hardly see any of them on the rocks but there were like half a dozen!), we fed them with pineapple and became soon their favourite friends!
Then we kept rowing and rowing, got into mangroves, caves and cliffs. It was fabulous! I would surely go for this program again ;-)!
When we got back to the little town of Au Nang, we went for another Thai lunch and massage (though Nicky rather climbed the nearby cliff) and slowly and surely the short adventure was about to get complete… with a mild food poisoning and the Singapore reality ;-P. What an adventure ;-)!

hey Gitti... Ana & Nadine from Dubai here... we just discovered your blog on the way to the airport flying to Thailand... we were wondering if you could give us the contact details from the place you were staying in Krabi and which agency you used for your kayaking tour. Thank you!
And if you have any suggestions for any other activities around Krabi we would highly appreciate that. Thanks a ton!!!
